On the recommendation of Lord Mountbatten and with the agreement of Jawaharlal Nehru, former soldiers of the INA were not allowed to join the brand new Indian Armed Forces as a situation for independence. Chatterji (later Major A.D. Jahangir) as head of enlightenment and culture. After returning to India the veterans of the INA posed a difficult problem for the British authorities
